How to Choose Boots for Boys

Choosing the right boots for yourself or your son is not always an easy task. There are a lot of factors to consider if you really want to keep the feet warm, dry and comfortable. Follow this guide to learn how to choose boots for boys.

  1. First: Consider the purpose

Think first about how you or your son intend to wear the boots. If you plan on hiking, look only at specialized hiking boots. If you want an all-purpose boot that you can use to work outdoors and do some basic hiking in, browse the work boot section, but focus on comfort so that you do not suffer from sore feet on those occasional hikes.

  2. Second: Choose the right height

Choosing the right height is one of the most important steps in boot selection. Low-cut hiking shoes are good for light hiking and some mild work. These are good if you plan on doing any trail running, but not so great if you plan on spending time outdoors in the rain as most offer little water protection. Mid-height boots are good for moderate hiking and also for most work conditions. They commonly are waterproof and do not take too long to break in. Tough, taller mountaineering boots are really only necessary if you are a very serious hiker or plan on carrying heavy loads.

  3. Third: Fit

Do not hesitate to try on twenty pairs of boots if that is how many it takes to find a pair that fits. Look for the proper length, which means you have just enough room to wiggle your toes. Next, look for the proper width. Boots should not pinch, but your foot should not move from side to side, either.
